If someone else wants to contribute to the GF on my behalf, how does he/she do so? How will I receive notice?

Anyone can follow the procedures listed above for check and credit card donations. Donors who are not HEKDESH members should be sure to indicate on whose behalf the gift is being made as well as that person’s name, e-mail and mailing address. Of course, they must also indicate that the gift is for HEKDESH. If the third party includes the necessary information, you will receive an acknowledgement letter. If a gift is made to the GF in honor of someone who also holds an IF, FJC will notify the honoree either via e-mail or postal mail.

If I lose track, is there an easy way for me to double-check how much I have contributed to the GF in this calendar year?

Yes. Simply contact FJC via e-mail or telephone. If you have an IF as well, you will see the inter-fund transfers on your quarterly statement.

The FJC materials mention fees; am I responsible for those fees?

No. Pursuant to Section III of the HEKDESH bylaws, “Fees associated with the Group Fund (GF) shall be assessed on the pooled funds in the GF in accordance with the GF Letter Agreement.” These fees (not including the 3% JustGive.org credit card transaction fee, which is not connected with FJC) are deducted after your donation and are not your concern.

If someone else wants to contribute to my IF on my behalf, how does he/she do so? How will I receive notice?

Yes, see above directions. The person making the donation will need to indicate not only HEKDESH but also the account number of your IF. FJC will notify you of the donation if they have sufficient information to do so.

How do I check the balance in my IF?

For now, you need to call or e-mail FJC to check the balance of your IF. In the next few months FJC expects to deploy a donor extranet, which will allow people to log in to their individual accounts online and see their balances, recent account activity, and submit grant distributions through the site.

How do I control how the funds in my IF are invested?

When you open your IF, you will complete a HEKDESH Collective Member Donor Application for FJC. In this document, you will make investment recommendations (and can choose from fund options such as: growth equities, money market portfolio, value equities, S&P 500 index, FJC’s Agency Loan Fund, Socially Responsive Fund, and more). Please note that a minimum of 1/3 of the account must be invested in either the money market portfolio or the Agency Loan Fund. If no choices are indicated, your IF contributions will be invested in the money market portfolio.

The FJC materials mention fees; am I responsible for those fees attached to my IF? For the fees associated with money I transfer from my IF to the GF?

You are responsible for your IF fees, which will be automatically deducted from your account by FJC. Your GF fees will be deducted post-contribution from the pooled fund, as explained above.  Please note that if you donate online, you are responsible for Paypal transaction fees.  For more info, please click here.
